Cradle Mountain is a spectacular mountain within the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair NP.  Located about 400 km n-w of Hobart, the mountain rises to an elevation of 1 545 m and is made up of dolerite columns. Cradle Mountain is a very popular climbing destination and the return climb takes a challenging and highly exposed 6 and a half hours. However the 360 deg views from the summits are definitely worth the effort. The four summits are Cradle Mt, Smithies Peak (1 545 m), Weindorfers Tower (1 459 m), Little Horn 1 355 m. The flora consists of a variety of alpine vegetation including waratahs, pines & deciduous beech.
Visitor Information Centre: just within the national park and is open 8am-5pm each day.
